At precisely 21.39 hrs the first of nineteen Lancasters, each carrying the massive Barnes Wallis designed bouncing bomb, lumbered down Scamptons grass runway and headed for the Dutch coast. In three waves they headed for the target, the mighty reservoir dams supplying vital electrical power to the Ruhr industries, Depicted is mission leader Wg Cdr Guy Gibson leading the first wave after just crossing the Dutch coast, the unmistakable thunder of Merlin engines shattering the peace as they navigate their way across Holland towards the Mohne Dam. From a small edition of 43 copies and 5 AP's this example has a superb colour remarque, in acrylic by the artist who has initialled it.
Framed and mounted to conservation standards with UV protected glazing. A unique piece of Dam Buster memorabilia, full certification provided, Note Sqn Ldr Maltby was killed on the Dortmund Ems raid, responsible for dropping the fifth mine of the Mohne causing the the second breach, Plt Off Spafford was Gibsons Bomb aimer, killed on the Dortmund Ems raid.
