The Vic Elford and Umberto Maglioli driven Porsche 907 is shown racing through Cerda's main street in this, the 52nd Targa Florio. Despite losing 20 minutes due to wheel and tyre problems during the opening lap, it was the English driver who gave a display of inspired driving to snatch victory from Alfa Romeo. He set both a new lap record and record average speed over the tortuous Little Madonie mountain circuit.
