Nicholas Watts - Le Mans 1991 - Special - Framed
This print bears the original signatures of - Johnny Herbert, Bertrand Gachot & Volker Weidler
The four rotar Mazda 787B became the first Japanese car to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans when Johnny Herbert, Bertrand Gachot and Volker Weidler took the chequered flag in 1991. Over the weekend the 22nd and 23rd June the number 55 Mazda covered 362 laps of the famous French circuit, and during its 28 pit stops the winning car received just one oil top up, one change of brake discs and pads and a nose change. Aside from that the 700bhp four rotar R26B powered 787B just required fuel and tyres as it faultlessly proved the reliability, efficiency and performance of the unique rotary technology. With the distinct livery of the Japanese clothing sponsor Renown, the iconic car has become one of the most famous of Le Mans winners slaying the giants of Mercedes, Jaguar and Peugeot.
